New England Biolabs® Launches Passion in Science Awards™ in Celebration of 40th Anniversary

“Unsung Heroes” of the Lab to be Honored for Making a Difference

Ipswich, MA, USA (September 3, 2014) – In commemoration of its 40th anniversary, New England Biolabs, Inc. (NEB®) today announced the Passion in Science Awards™ which recognize members of the scientific community who are committed to making a difference through their science, humanitarian service, environmental stewardship or artistic and creative spirit.

“We’ve always believed that science is more than a vocation—it embodies an ethos that inspires acts of compassion, brilliance and originality. We want to celebrate the many unsung heroes of the lab, not just for their discoveries, but for their passions that contribute to making the world a better place,” says James Ellard, CEO of NEB.

NEB is soliciting nominations of scientists whose work embodies one of four core values: inspiring science, environmental stewardship, humanitarian service, or arts and creativity. Awardees will be chosen in each category and will receive a travel grant for academic conferences or a donation to the charity of their choice. The awardees will travel to NEB’s campus, at the company’s expense, to participate in an awards dinner, roundtable discussions and seminars with fellow scientists who share similar passions. This event will be held at the end of October in Ipswich, MA, USA.

Applications may be submitted at NEBPassionInScience.com. The deadline for applications is September 30th. Winners will be announced on or around October 8th, and will be chosen in four categories:

The Inspiration in Science Award™ recognizes scientists whose passion for their field motivates them to push the frontiers of knowledge on a daily basis.

The Environmental Stewardship Award™ recognizes scientists who are working to preserve our natural resources or reduce waste either in the lab or outside of it.

The Humanitarian Duty Award™ recognizes scientists who are improving the welfare and happiness of others.

The Arts and Creativity Award™ recognizes scientists who demonstrate a love of the arts and may also explore their creative side in the laboratory.

Ellard says, “We are very excited about the Passion in Science Awards and look forward to celebrating our customers’ achievements in areas that we hold dear. Our passion for science, the environment, humanity and the arts has helped define our business practices and corporate culture for forty years and will continue to guide us in long into the future.”
